Since these are psychic predictions, you can have them well in advance! “Free-Spirited” and “Eccentric” are two words to describe the fashion trends coming up next Spring!

WOMEN

1) Women will be dressing more like Frida Kahlo: floral headpieces attached to brightly coloured ribbons, long, Mexican peasant skirts, and white, short-sleeved and short-waisted peasant blouses will be worn. Accompanied by two belts worn at once, one above the other in contrasting neutral colours (greys, browns and taupes) OR asymmetrical belts wrapped around one shoulder and one hip, like a beauty pageant ribbon. These asymmetrical belts will also sometimes be doubled to make a crisscross in the front, like a big, leather “X”, sort of like backwards suspenders. Long earrings, multiple necklaces and lots of big rings found at antique shoppes complete The Kahlo Look.

2) A subtler version of German dirndls make a comeback, à la Gretel of Hansel and Gretel, and stay in fashion through Oktoberfest, 2013 and beyond. It also becomes fashionable to carry antique books from the 1920’s and 1930’s in leather satchels.

Happy birthday, Frida Kahlo.

MEN

                                              Salvador Dali Painter

Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali

1) Both women and men will begin a trend next Spring that will last for several years of dressing like famous 20th-century painters, including Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol.

2) Outfits will often include antique watches that no longer work, worn as bracelets in a homage to history. Also watch for pocket watches in late Fall/early Winter of 2013! Anything goes with hats, as many styles will be available.

Whimsical ties, bowties and silk scarves featuring the work of famous 19th and 20th-Century painters who used bright colours, such as Van Gogh, Matisse, Cezanne, Kandinsky and Picasso, worn as part of Australian-style short suits next Spring and Summer.

3) Traditional Swiss Folk clothing..get ready for a day in the Alps this Summer with the return of a more modernised version of The Lederhosen! An interest in reviving the embroidery and fabrics of traditional Swiss and German folk fashions will start next Spring and continue over the next 3 years. Hats are becoming more and more common in both casual and formal wear…and, of course, look forward to Swiss Fedora hiking hats with feather accents!

Short Suits

…and don’t forget to complete your outfit with an antique pocket watch! The most popular ones will have hand-painted images on enamel or inscriptions of images in the front, and space inside for a photograph or mirror.
