“When you feel compelled to complain, give compliments instead…”
On our most recent episode of Zodiac Divas, we brought up the debate of whether or not people with opposite beliefs or interests can have a long-term relationship. There are people with an insatiable wanderlust for travel, and those who are happy to stay home. There are couples where one is devoutly religious and the other is an atheist. Can we make it work with someone who sees the world in a different way than us? If you’re in a relationship with someone who has a very different perspective from you and you want to do what you can to make it as happy and lasting as possible, here are some tips:
* When you’re feeling the need to argue your side of a debate, ask yourself, “Would I rather be right or be happy?” Know that you have a choice: to love or to win (although in not loving, we all lose!).
* Think of two things you are grateful for about your partner every time you get angry at them about one thing. When you feel compelled to complain, compliment instead!
*Keep a “Condemn, Complain, Criticise, & Compare” journal. Send your concerns out into the Universe by writing about what bothers you in relationships. Then, when you approach your partner to compromise on an issue, it will be easier for you to focus on the facts, avoid projecting, and remember why you got into this relationship in the first place: because you care about this person and, despite your differences, you’ve found a path to greater happiness together.
Check back for more compliments!
